WHO ARE YOU??
When we believe that transformation is possible, then our journey begins as we seek to live out the values that we hold dear. But to live out our values we must begin to understand WHO we truly are inside. And there lies the WORK!
It is easy to just avoid taking that inward examination of yourself. We can get tangled in our busyness and just survive day to day hiding behind life's pace. When we choose to live this way we never are able to really delve deep into WHO we truly are in our heart and mind. We use busyness as an excuse to not do the real work on self that reveals our inner passion. But as Socrates said, "The unexamined life is not worth living. "
What is your concept of yourself? There is no way to transform if you are unaware of your starting point. If you aren't aware of who you are then you can not even tell if you transform! We are all perfectly capable of observing our own experiences and learning about ourselves through that experience. And when we truly see ourselves and how we respond to experiences, then we can begin to make strategies to initiate transformation in those areas.
Where are you now? If you were lost in the wilderness and someone gave you a map and a compass, what would your first task be? Your first task would be to figure out where you are in the map. You can only figure out where you need to go when you know where you are starting from. It is the same with your life!
You can not begin a journey of transformation unless you start from the truth of who you are now. We must learn to be brutally honest with ourselves. Of all the lies we tell, the ones we tell ourselves are the most deadly "Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting." Psalms 139:23-24 NIV Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord.
