Don't let the INCONSEQUENTIAL steal your JOY

Perspective is a powerful tool in our mind. Perspective changes the way we see each event in our life. A small distortion of perspective will make things that are truly INCONSEQUENTIAL in the scope of our lives seem like the most important thing to our mind. It is this type of distortion of perspective that can derail our ability to live each moment to its fullest potential and steal the JOY from what REALLY matters.
Yesterday I allowed an INCONSEQUENTIAL event to cause me to miss a simple joy that really matters in life. And in doing so I did NOT make the most of every opportunity. Let me explain. I love Oklahoma Sooner football. But I am so often guilty of blowing it out of perspective. When you really evaluate the importance, a win or a loss has no REAL effect on the true value of my life. This is just a bunch of teenagers and young men playing a game on a sunny afternoon. Yet I allowed it to take away time I spent with my wife and son because I was allowing it to control my every thought. Even after the game I was filled with "what if's" and "what could have been's". I could not focus on Latham or Angie because I was obsessing over something that win or lose truly should not effect my life. Later that day my wife said, "I feel bad for Latham because I just don't think you were fully with us today". It was at that moment that I powerfully realized that I let the INCONSEQUENTIAL keep me from MOEO! I let the INCONSEQUENTIAL steal my joy.
Our perspective can be a substantial roadblock to making the most of every opportunity in our lives. When we see INCONSEQUENTIAL things as more important in our lives than they really are, we sacrifice the real opportunity God places in front of us. It's not just football. I am guilty of distorted perspective in other areas as well. We must learn to identify these things as roadblocks and then create a strategy to overcome the roadblock. When a distorted perspective is the roadblock we have to be able to change our perspective.
It is up to YOU to set the tone of your day! You will either conform to the world and let others dictate your life. Or let God change the way you think! And when you allow God to change your perspective, that will be contagious!
I have had moments of a distorted perspective my whole life, as I am sure we all have. And I know I can't simply convince myself that certain things don't matter. But I know that when I allow God to transform my mind, I will see from the right perspective. And then I can truly moeo everywhere I go!!!
